Energy was a top topic when the Biotechnology Industry Organization got underway in Atlanta.  The Obama Administration has set a goal of saving more oil than we now import from the Middle East and Venezuela.  Can it be done?

Can the industry come up with renewable biofuels that can meet many of energy and environmental needs over the long term:

Dr. John Pierce, vice president of Dupont applied sciences and a member of the Department of Energy’s Biological and Environmental Research Advisory Committee, discusses the issue in this podcast.

The convention drew 20,000 scientists, industry leaders and government officials to see the latest products and discuss progress in efforts to:

  • find good substitutes for oil-based plastics and fuels,
  • find cures for major diseases,
  • and provide disease-resistant, genetically engineered crops and cloned animals to improve food supplies.
